The stones could all be the same size or the two side stones could be smaller so as not to detract from the focus of the larger stone. Traditionally, engagement rings have at least one diamond.
Generally, three stone rings are designed using the prong setting, but you may prefer the bar, bezel or even pave settings. Once again, it is a matter of personal preference.
